Adam Badowski, the managing director of developer CD Projekt RED, says that the upcoming The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will be customized in order to take advantage of the unique features of the platforms on which it launches.

At the moment, the game is only confirmed as coming to the PC and the PlayStation 4 from Sony.

Badowski tells GamesIndustry that “PC was the lead platform for Witcher 2 because it was the most powerful, but that might change in the future. We know a lot about the next gen platforms that we can’t comment on yet, but our strategy is that we’re always trying to maximise the quality for the platform, to use its particular strengths and advantages.”

Most video game developers who launch on the PC and on home consoles create experiences that adhere to the lowest common denominator in terms of performance.

Since the first Witcher was launched, one of the trademarks of CD Projekt RED has been its impressive visuals, and the team is always trying to push the technology, using the most powerful platform available as their guide.

The developer adds, “PC allows for more at the moment, but new platforms are stepping up. In the future, it should be much easier to unify the requirements. Some things, like control schemes, will still need to be tailored to the platforms but the new platforms will unify requirements.”

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt looks impressive in the screenshots that have been revealed so far, and the development team will use an entirely new engine to create its open world.

The game will focus on Geralt and his past, and will give players’ choices more meaning than before.

CD Projekt RED is also working on Cyberpunk 2077, a near-future science-fiction-themed experience that will launch after The Witcher 3.
