14 DAY TRIAL // Along with the release of YouTube Gaming, a platform dedicated to online gamers, YouTube also published a list of the top 10 most popular games on the video-sharing service.
We already know what a central role YouTube plays in the online video game market, being the place most people go to for trailers, previews, tips&tricks, gameplay videos, and even cheats (sometimes & not all of us).
"Today we introduce YouTube Top Trending Games, a chart that looks beyond what’s already big today to what’s going to be big tomorrow," the company notes.
The list is compiled after analyzing recently uploaded game-related videos, the most shared clips, and the buzz generated through comments on gaming videos.
Since Google wants a piece of the online gaming market pie, you can expect this chart to be a regular mainstay in the company's offering, providing gamers with insights on what most people are playing or what new game is coming up the ranks.
And the winners are...
The first ever winner of the YouTube Top Trending Games chart is The Witcher 3, an RPG game that is so popular right now that it managed to drive fan interest in its previous two versions up as well.
YouTube developers noted that search traffic for The Witcher 2 is currently as high as in 2012, when the game was originally released.
Second on the list is Life Is Strange, an episodic interactive adventure video game following the exploits of a young female photographer.
Third is the latest Wolfenstein release, The Old Blood, which also doesn't surprise anyone, being one of the cult WWII games that spurned interest in the genre at the start of the 2000s.
Completing the top 5 are Splatoon and the Kerbal Space Program, two unexpected games, one being a first-person shooter for kids on Wii U, and the other being a spaceport simulator.
Last but not least, the rest of the top 10 is made up of Rust, Batman: Arkham Knight, Assassin’s Creed: Unity, Smite, and Project CARS.
