The buggy game made the studio realize the need for a delay

CD Projekt Red, the developer behind the upcoming The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt role-playing game, mentions that the latest delay affecting the title was heavily influenced by the controversial release of Assassin's Creed Unity, which suffered from major issues at launch.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is the long-awaited third installment in the long-running RPG series made by CD Projekt Red. Millions of people are looking forward to its release and quite a lot of them were pretty disappointed after the string of delays that were announced by the Polish studio.

The game was first presented to the world in early 2013 and given an early 2014 release. That, unfortunately, didn't happen, as the RPG's launch was pushed back to late 2014. That once again wasn't respected, so CD Projekt Red brought forth a February 2015 launch estimate.

The last delay was influenced by Assassin's Creed Unity and its troubles

However, once again, CD Projekt Red was forced to postpone the game's launch, giving the latest release date of May 19. According to Senior Gameplay Designer Damien Monnier, via Gamepur, the decision was a tough one, especially given its impact on fans, but a key role was played by the ill-received Assassin's Creed Unity.

According to Monnier, the many errors that were part of Unity at launch were due to the fact that the development team wasn't able to delay it, so fans were quite disappointed. In order to avoid such a fate for The Witcher 3, CD Projekt Red once again opted for a postponement and hoped that fans understood.

"Explaining the second delay was even easier for us. I am sorry about the problems Assassin's Creed Unity faced at launch, but developers were forced to respect that release date and they could only limit the damage. Unity's case made our decision simpler because it showed to our backers what could have happened to The Witcher 3, too. In the end, we were able to get all the time we needed," he explains.

After Unity's many problems, quite a lot of gamers are now more understanding of delays and hope that new titles avoid making the same mistakes as Ubisoft's title.
