The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings is set to receive a massive update in the form of the 2.0 one, but the developer of the popular role-playing game, CD Projekt Red, will continue to support it a long time after the new patch.

CD Projekt Red is working hard both on the upcoming update 2.0 for The Witcher 2, as well as on the Xbox 360 version of the game, which is set to be launched next year.

After update 2.0, fans shouldn't worry about the Polish studio abandoning the existing PC version, as Ziemak Marek, level designer at CD Projekt Red confirmed, during an exclusive interview with Softpedia at Gamescom 2011, that lots of patches and updates will continue to be released.

When asked if the patch release process will dwindle down after update 2.0, Ziemak confirmed that it all depends on the feedback from the users, as CD Projekt Red will continue to stomp out any and all bugs or issues reported by players.

"It depends on the people and the feedback we get after the release of update 2.0. If people will need some patches or extra features, we'll of course work on them. We're not planning to leave the title by itself after update 2.0. It's not the end of the PC version of The Witcher."

The Witcher 2 got three big patches since its release, taking it to version 1.1, 1.2 and 1.3, respectively, as well as a recent hot fix, 1.35. The new update is just titled 2.0 in order to reflect the variety of features that will be included in it, like a new tutorial system, a more difficult Dark Mode, as well as a new Arena gameplay mode.

"Update 2.0 is just the next step. It's an achievement for us. We believe it's something that has to happen because it's a major update. But then we'll still be working on the PC version, maybe add some new things or features, but we're still working it out," Ziemak concluded.

The Witcher 2 update 2.0 is out on September 29 for the PC version of the game.
