Known for his role in the HBO hit series “The Wire, ” actor Anwan Glover found himself in the most unfortunate of places last night, as he was stabbed while on an outing at a Washington D.C. night club.

The news comes via the Washington Post, which claims that Glover was approached by a stranger and punched in the face while on the second floor of the Cafe Asia on the night of August 3. His manager, Tiffany Turner, confirmed that Anwar saw himself punched in the face by one individual and, immediately after, was surrounded by several others who proceeded to hit him.

It is believed that this attack occurred at an event following his performance at a concert he held on the same night with his band, in Columbia. The actor was treated for a stab wound on the right side of his torso at the George Washington University hospital, but his condition remains uncertain at the moment.

Glover himself was able to tell how he was punched in the face without warning by a man. When he turned to face his assailant, another individual punched him in the back of the neck. This sudden hit caused the actor to lose his footing, to slip, and ultimately to fall to the ground.

As he hit the floor, Glover says that he was kicked several times, and between blows he could hear someone shout, “he has a knife!” At that point, the actor claims to have felt a sharp pain in his side.

His manager told the press that “Anwan is no stranger to challenges and struggle, he has overcome many. It is unfortunate that a 'man of the people' or anyone for that matter, cannot attend events without the possibility of injury just by being a bystander.”

Anwan had a troubled past growing up in the nation's capital, where he resided in suburban Upper Marlboro. It's been reported that, in total, the actor was shot 13 times while growing up in the District's Columbia Heights neighborhood.

Also, as a testament to his violent past, his brother died in a shooting in the same region back in 2007, and his own son was wounded in another shooting that took place at a party in 2011.

The 37-year-old actor is a known campaigner against violence and has used his troubled upbringing to speak on a number of anti-violence movements. He has given accounts on his many brushes with violence and has always advocated against it.

Apart from his role on the television series “The Wire,” Glover also starred in the Oscar-nominated film “12 Years a Slave.”
