Says Infinity Ward man

Modern Warfare 2 is set to be released on November 10 by Activision and Infinity Ward on the PC, the Xbox 360 from Microsoft and the PlayStation 3 from Sony. One very important platform missing from the list is the Nintendo Wii, a device that received a port of the original Modern Warfare when it came out in 2007. But this time around, the developers are not talking about getting the game on the Wii and it seems that they even have an explanation for that.

Robert Bowling, who is the community manager at Infinity Ward, told Develop that “If we felt like we could deliver the cinematic experience we were going for on other platforms, then we would gladly move to that platform. Right now, we don't think the Wii can deliver the exact experience that we're doing. We like to be very equal across all platforms, and if it's not equal then we won't do it.”

Of course, shooters like Modern Warfare 2 are not extremely popular on the Nintendo Wii, which is calibrated to attract more casual gamers but the lack of a port could disappoint some fans of the series. Still, the computing power of the Nintendo Wii seems not be enough to depict the action packed scenarios of Modern Warfare 2.

The problem is that Infinity Ward might actually be alienating an even wider range of players. PC enthusiasts are already up in arms because the company has announced that dedicated servers, which are among the staples of PC shooters, will not be included and replaced by a system called IWNet.

With Nintendo Wii users also a bit annoyed, Infinity Ward will have to focus on pleasing the Xbox 360 and PS3 crowds to make sure that they have an audience for their next project after Modern Warfare 2.
