Sergey Titov, the executive producer working on The War Z, believes that his upcoming zombie-based title and the DayZ mod for ArmA II can exist in the same genre without any problems, because the experience they offer are separate despite a number of similarities.

Speaking with VG247, the developer states, “We don’t mind being compared to DayZ at all – in fact we are fans of the mod. Ultimately, we hope that gamers will end up playing both The War Z and the DayZ standalone.”

“It’s difficult to compare at the moment, but, though there are similarities, we tried to create a game that was a little bit easier to access and play, and that would allow players to be creative and create their own scenarios,” he adds.

The developer is confident that players will be able to choose which experience is best suited to their own tastes and will allow DayZ and The War Z to co-exist in the zombie multiplayer genre.

The War Z is an open-world zombie survival shooter that allows players to group together and create the infrastructure they need in order to survive hordes of the undead.

The game’s story will allow players to work towards creating a new vaccine that could cure the survivors when they fall to zombie attacks.

The War Z is being developed by Hammerpoint Interactive and is set to go into a closed beta stage towards the end of the month, with a select number of players able to experience the gameplay and offer the team important feedback.

DayZ is just a mod that was created by Dean Hall for the ArmA II military shooter from Bohemia Interactive, which has found a large fan base with its uncompromising mechanics and focus on player-driven stories.

The developer plans to create a standalone game based on DayZ.
