Actor Joe Conley, most famous for his role as a storekeeper on hit TV series “The Waltons,” which he played for 10 years, has died. He was 85 years old and had been suffering from dementia, the New York Daily News reports.

“According to wife Louise Conley, Joe Conley died at a care facility in Southern California on Sunday. She says he had suffered from dementia,” the publication reports.

Conley, mostly a television actor, had appeared in “Green Acres” and “The Beverly Hillbillies” before landing the part that would turn him into an icon, in 1972.

He played Ike Godsey, “postmaster and owner of the Jefferson County general store,” for nearly 10 years on “The Waltons,” totaling 172 episodes in 9 seasons.

The same media outlet notes that Conley also appeared in “TV movie reunions that lasted into the 1990s.”
