The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman confirms that the upcoming game set in the universe from Overkill Software will be similar to the studio's previous Payday titles and will include an online mode, albeit it's unclear just how it's going to work.

"The Walking Dead" comic books spawned a cult following, and already quite a few games have been based on that property, launching to more or less success. Of course, the standout experiences arrived from Telltale Games in the form of The Walking Dead adventure series.

Overkill Software and parent company Starbreeze are working on a different game that's based on the property, but no details have been revealed just yet.

The Walking Dead title from Overkill is similar to Payday

Thankfully, during a talk at SXSW with Polygon, The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman shares a few interesting tidbits of information about the game, saying that it's going to be similar to the Payday titles that were previously made by Overkill for a variety of platforms.

The first-person shooter experiences tasked players with robbing banks, stores, museums, and other such things, while fighting waves of police and law enforcement agencies.

However, the new Walking Dead game will have a bigger world than Payday 2, and it will incorporate different elements, such as the online mode, according to Kirkman.

"I can say that it will be Payday-esque because [Starbreeze and Overkill] are currently doing Payday," Kirkman says. "But I'm told it will be in a bigger world than Payday currently encompasses. They are going to be learning a lot of stuff from Payday that they will be incorporating into The Walking Dead game. There will be announcements about that game very soon. I think it is pretty safe to say that the Starbreeze game will be online and interactive."

As such, it's quite possible that the new title will change the police to zombies and it's going to have a more action-oriented feel. However, it's better to wait for an official announcement from Overkill before jumping to conclusions.
