Microsoft fanboys, rejoice! There are only two days left until the launch of Windows 8.1 Preview, as the software maker is planning to unveil the major update on June 26 during the BUILD developer conference.

Even though the company has only provided the essential details on the future Windows 8.1 update, some leaked documents that reached the web the past weekend revealed that Microsoft was also planning to make the OS available as a stand-alone ISO, especially for those who wish to set up a dual-boot configuration.

This is also pretty good news for users who aren’t willing to perform a clean install once the RTM version of Windows 8.1 hits the market, as updating from the Preview flavor to stable would remove all installed apps and settings.

At the same time, we found out that the software maker has significantly improved the setup experience, so once all files are successfully deployed on the computer, you are allowed to set up two-step verification and even back up your settings to the SkyDrive account.

It turns out, however, that users who are connected to the Internet during the setup won’t be allowed to create a local account, so the only way to sign in to the operating system would be a Microsoft account.

In addition, the Softies have also improved app updating process, so all installed Metro tools will be automatically updated whenever new versions are released.

Still, this particular option won’t work on metered connections, which is quite good news for those browsing the web on a data plan.

Of course, all these details are yet to be confirmed, so we should actually take them with a pinch of salt until Microsoft confirms.

More details will be provided on June 26 during the BUILD developer conference starting at 9 a.m. when Microsoft is set to hold the opening keynote.

Of course, Softpedia will provide live coverage, so keep an eye on our news section to find the latest info about Windows 8.1.
