The technology is mounted on the user’s head to keep track of eye blinks and movements

For those of you accustomed to doze off in the most unlikely places, here’s a Kickstarter project that aims to keep you awake, no matter what the circumstances.

Meet the Vigo, the first wearable device capable of monitoring your alertness levels. This little headset will monitor your blinking patterns and body movements to "understand" just how sleepy you are.

So even if you think you’re still fit enough to perform some tasks, your body can’t lie to the Vigo.

When detecting increased tiredness levels, the system will recommend that you take a break to relax. Vigo uses an infrared sensor in concert with an accelerometer to determine when you’re getting tired and it will alert you before you’re even conscious of it.

On top of that, Vigo is capable of connecting to your smartphone or tablet via Bluetooth and comes with a companion app which “visualizes the important information about your alertness in a simple, useful way to allow you see patterns and make changes in your routine.”

The smart companion will also pick up your calls, thus allowing you to get some handsfree talking time down.

The Vigo can prove to be quite useful in understanding your sleep-wakefulness cycle and in turn it will help better adapt it to your living schedule.

Users can set up three different types of alarms for when they want Vigo to nudge them awake. Choose between a wake-up song, a vibration or a simple LED notification, depending on what works best for you.

Vigo is also smart enough to give you recommendations about what to do and when to do it, based on the information it has gathered by monitoring you.

The Vigo is currently gathering funds on its Kickstarter campaign page so those interested can pledge $79 / €58 to help the team reach its goal. If they manage to gather up the sufficient funds, the Vigo will launch on the market for $119 / €88.
