If you thought wearables were stylish enough, check out this Kickstarter project by Sweden-based designer Angella Mackey and the Toronto-based Social Body Lab.

Their combined effort birthed the Vega Edge, a small and fashionable wearable light that can be assorted to any of your outfits.

The Vega Edge is a pretty simple device, so don’t you go thinking it is capable of relaying notifications from your smartphone or buzz when you reach some pre-set goal. Its role is actually pretty standard – to provide you with enough lighting to keep you safe at night.

Rather than carrying a flashlight in your bag or use the similar smartphone function (provided it has one), wearing the Vega Edge will go right on your clothing, so you won’t have to pull it out of anywhere when you need it.

The accessory has been designed to be versatile, so it can be attached in a numbers of creative ways and gives off an edgy look (it’s no wonder they are calling it the Edge).

The Vega Edge has been created using a laser-cut leather in combination with a thin strip of retro-reflective fabric bundled within it. The circuit board used to light up the concoction is also integrated.

The Edge can be attached to most garments or bags in just a few seconds thanks to the super strong magnets. However, switching them from one piece of clothing to another is extremely easy.

The Edge doesn't take advantage of the typical flashlight system with ON-OFF-ON-OFF. The fun part is that the creators of the wearable invite tinker-enthusiasts with knowledge of Arduino to reprogram the gizmo in order to obtain whatever flashing pattern they think might resonate with them.

The Vega Edge is not currently shipping out to consumers, but when it does, the team will include a link to the Hacking the Edge guide which comes with hardware instructions and open source code. How neat!

The Vega Edge is being offered in two shapes, Trapezoid and True, with the first being the more avant-garde looking.

Each shape can be fitted with a light color of your choice, including white, red, green and blue.

The team promises that in the future they will be experimenting with different designs, colors and faux-leather too, a choice that will certainly appeal to vegans.

The Kickstarter project has received sufficient funding, so the wearable should be ready to light up your path soon enough.
