With a strong emphasis placed on comfort, Microsoft unveiled the Natural Ergonomic Desktop 7000, a keyboard and mouse combination designed to go hand in hand with the level of comfort delivered by Windows Vista. Microsoft described the Natural Ergonomic Desktop 7000 as a new benchmark "for desktop innovation and ergonomic design." Building on the design of the Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000 and Natural Wireless Laser Mouse 6000, the Natural Ergonomic Desktop 7000 addresses users spending in excess of six hors per day in front of their machines. In such scenarios, a little bit of extra comfort goes a long way.

"We're very excited to deliver this product to help make the time our customers spend on their computers more comfortable," said Dan Odell, Ph.D., user researcher and ergonomist, Hardware Group at Microsoft. "The Natural Ergonomic Desktop 7000 combines the best of technology and comfort with 30-foot range, 2.4 GHz wireless technology and groundbreaking ergonomic design."

Microsoft is already inviting users to "slip into something more comfortable" with the Natural Ergonomic Desktop 7000, even though the peripherals will only be made available by the end of June. The estimated retail price for the desktop is $149.95. The keyboard will literally bring to the table 2.4 GHz wireless connectivity, proprietary "gull wing" design, optional palm rest and a 12-degree split and 14-degree gable. "The keyboard features a two-color battery life indicator that warns users when it is time to replace batteries; red means the batteries are running low on power, and solid green glows and then fades away when new batteries are inserted," Microsoft described.

Along with the keyboard, users will also get the Natural Ergonomic Desktop 7000, inspired by the shape of a baseball. "Innovative software features include the Instant Viewer, which displays all open windows at once so users can easily switch between applications for added productivity, and Magnifier, which delivers real-time magnification on any section of the screen, making viewing and editing of hard-to-see text or pictures easier than ever. Finally, the mouse features High Definition Laser Technology for more precise, responsive and smooth tracking," Microsoft explained.
