A mix of Chinese Crested and Chihuahua

A little dog can be fluffy, cute and adorable. But this is not the case with the creatures exposed at the World's Ugliest Dog competition in LA.

And the winner was crowned Elwood, a 2-year-old Chinese Crested and Chihuahua mix, which received the title of the world's ugliest dog on Friday, to the delight of the hideous creature's owner, who also received an award of $ 1,000.

Elwood is handbag sized, dark-colored and hairless, except for a mohawk-like puff of white fur on the top of his head; it looks like a combination of "Yoda" and "ET", the fictional characters. Still, the owner considers it the perfect pet.

"When people see Elwood they're shocked. They go ' Oh, my God!' They don't even know what it is half the time. They think he's a monkey or a gremlin or something. I think he's the cutest thing that ever lived. But after you spend a couple minutes with him, you love him so much. His personality is lovable. He's always been lovable. So he goes from ugly to cute in a matter of minutes." said the owner, Karen Quigley, a resident of Sewell, New Jersey.

She brought Elwood out to compete for the second time at the annual ugly dog contest at the Marin-Sonoma County Fair and last year he was placed second. Most of the competition was also formed by Chinese Crested, a breed which displays a mohawk, bug eyes and a long, wagging disgusting tongue and which is small sized (10-13 lbs or 4-6 kg). Still, they have a very pleasant entertaining personality and there are two variants: the Hairless and the Powderpuff.

Quigley said "I rescued Elwood two years ago. The breeder was going to euthanize him because she thought he was too ugly to sell. So ha ha, now Elwood's all over the Internet and people love him and adore him".
