Twitter has revealed that the "Twitter Wine" everyone has been waiting for since the announcement last year is finally shipping to those who pre-ordered and is available for sale for everyone else.

Twitter may be one of the hottest properties on the web right now, but it's sticking to what it knows.

It has recently started venturing out and building its own shortening service, mobile apps and so on, but these projects are also pretty close to home.

The Twitter Wine, or Fledgling Wine to be precise, part of the Fledgling Initiative, however, is not the sort of thing you'd expect a company like Twitter to do.

But no, Twitter hasn't resorted to the wine selling business as a last-ditch attempt of generating revenue, the Fledgling Initiative has a good cause at heart.

"The Fledgling Initiative was hatched to craft awesome wine for the benefit of Room to Read, a non-profit organization extending literacy and educational opportunities to children worldwide," Twitter co-founder Biz Stone said.

"Every bottle and every case of Fledgling wine sold will help promote literacy in Uttarakhand, India. These wines are being made using some of the best vineyards in California by the acclaimed winemaking team at Crushpad," he explained.

"Incidentally, 2009 appears to be an excellent vintage in California, potentially one of the best of the decade," he added, boasting the wine's quality.

A number of Twitter employees have devoted their time to creating the wine, a Fledgling Pinot Noir and a Fledgling Chardonnay. Crushpad enables anyone to make their own wine with the help and guidance of professionals.

The revenue from selling the wine, which is available only on its website for now, will go to the Root to Read foundation which builds schools in remote and underprivileged regions of the world.
