New games will keep on coming in the action adventure series

Ubisoft has talked about its Assassin’s Creed series and how the structure of the franchise, which has been going on for quite some time, allows it to continue forever, even if the most recent title, Revelations, has just ended the storyline for two of its previous protagonists, Altair and Ezio Auditore.

The Assassin’s Creed series made its debut back in 2007 and, since then, it’s become one of the most popular franchises for Ubisoft, with the French company deploying three games one year after another, and now preparing a fourth consecutive one in 2012.

Besides the games, we’ve seen quite a lot of other Assassin’s Creed experiences, from comic books to short movies. All of this variety is possible because the franchise is now becoming one of the most important ones for the games industry and because its structure allows for a very wide meta story, at least according to Ubisoft.

“Assassin's Creed is a big brand not just for us, but for the industry,” said Ubisoft senior VP of sales and marketing Tony Key to the A List. “It's the third game in the Ezio trilogy and [players] want to see how it ends. One of the key things is the storyline for Ezio and Altair that Assassin's Creed: Revelations ties up in a bow.”

“The meta story is supposed to be carried on forever,” he added. “We can go on with this brand where we want to – that's the exciting part about the way it's constructed. As we've said all along, this is the end of Ezio's story Arch; it's a great place to jump in the franchise and anyone who has played the previous games should have some satisfaction with the answers they get at the end.”

We already ran our review of Assassin’s Creed: Revelations at the end of last week and found that, while Ezio’s adventures are complete, the story of Desmond, the current day protagonist of the series, is now reaching a critical point that will no doubt be explored by next year’s Assassin’s Creed III.
