Nifty portable chambered speakers

Portable speakers are everyday gadgets now, and they come in innumerable shapes and colors, from the one boasting a really silly design to the one rather suitable for children, and from the crappy ones to the most luxurious items you could think of. It's time to introduce to you the new kid on the block, in the body of the so-called “Spring Speaker,” a portable unit with a lot of character and by far looking cooler than the rest.

The first thing you'll notice about the Spring Speaker is that it sports bellows. As weird as this might seem, it is not the first speaker system with such an architecture. Check out this one, and you'll be convinced about the functionality of the bellows articulation.

Well, what looks in the first place like a common drum-shaped portable speaker you can easily use with your PMP or cell phone is indeed a nifty audio gadget your friends will envy you for having. Now, what's with the bellows-thing, might you ask. As the speaker is expanded, the bellows creates a bigger space behind the drivers, allowing more air to be moved and increasing the bass response. Don't expect this miniature speaker to blast through the air like a dedicated subwoofer – it just adds a more punchy drive to your sound, and, in the end, your speakers will sound better than those with no chamber at all.

The Spring Speaker comes with an internal Li-ion battery, which needs only 2.5 hours to fully charge via USB and will provide you with around 4 hours of playback. Connecting the speakers to any music source is easy, thanks to the 3.5mm stereo jack, and this means there are quite a few things you cannot hook up to the Spring Speaker.

The whole gadget weighs in at 158 grams, and the power rating claims a 2 x 2 W RMS sonic response, which is very good, taking into account its moderate dimensions. Yours for around $22, for minimum orders of 5 or more. Think fast about your friends and make a list, as it looks like this speaker system will sell big time around the holidays.
