The trend of launching slim and small phones is not something new, but the record set by NEC with the new e949 model won't be easy to break.

With a thickness of only 11.9 mm, NEC e949 is rated as the "slimmest phone in the world". The device weighs only 96 grams.

Despite its dimensions, the phone has all specs of a last generation phone: an OLED 1.9 inch display, a 1.3 MP digital camera and a MP3 player.

The phone offers polyphonic ring tones, Java support and Bluetooth connectivity. NEC e949 will be available only on the European and Asian markets, the device being compatible with the GSM and GPRS network.

NEC announced that the first countries where the new phone will be introduced are Russia, Italy and China, but didn't make any comments about the price.
