Halloween and frightful masks usually go hand in hand, yet one species of caterpillars believes that one should never have to wait for such a celebration in order to put on a scary face.

Thus, these creatures constantly wear the picture of a skull on top of their heads (eyeballs included).

Ecorazzi explains that this choice of costume has to do with the caterpillar's need to keep safe from predators, which supposedly get scared and run away after just catching a glimpse of said skull image.

This species of caterpillars is presently listed as an endangered one, and greenheads are doing their best to protect whatever natural habitats these peculiar creatures still have at their disposal in the Australian rainforest.

For the time being, one can only hope that this amazing species will escape extinction and stick around to scare both predators and regular folk for many years to come.
