This initiative actually sounds interesting, first because it fines people for their selfies and maybe will manage to prevent the excessive self-taken shots, and secondly, because the money is used for charity, which is always a good thing.

The Selfie Police was developed by two students from Brigham Young University, Chas Barton and Dustin Locke, and was launched last week. The participation is voluntary and until now the developers have managed to raise almost $1,450 (€1,067).

With the motto “You owe humanity a dollar,” the program managed to attract participants that were either willing to donate or just wanted to find a way to moderate their selfie obsession.

The money gathered through the project will go to an education fund for students who can't afford to pay for college. Celebrities also joined the original idea of turning “vanity into charity” and have donated a few dollars with their own charitable selfies.
