Security company Symantec is again brought in the spotlights after several products developed by the company were reported to contain a serious flaw. According to Secunia, numerous security solutions designed by the same firm might be attack that the affected products are Norton Antivirus 2005 and 2006, Norton Internet Security 2005 and 2006, Norton System Works 2005 and 2006. Secunia rated the flaw as moderately critical, adding you should update to the latest definitions now.

"A vulnerability has been reported in various Symantec products, which can be exploited by malicious people to bypass certain security restrictions. The vulnerability is caused due to a design error within the NAVOpts.dll ActiveX control when loaded in a standard browser window. This can be exploited to e.g. access other Symantec ActiveX controls that are not marked as safe for scripting," Secunia sustained.

As I said, the only solution to avoid a successful exploitation of the flaw is to apply the latest updates released by Symantec. You can do this with ease using the LiveUpdate function included in all of the Symantec products.

In the recent period, the security solutions that must protect our computers were often the subjects of the advisories because the companies discovered more or less critical security flaws. However, not only these applications are vulnerable to attacks, as the hackers are now aiming to exploit every tiny hole in our systems. For example, it was recently reported that the attackers are trying to break into users' computers through the vulnerabilities discovered in compression tools (WinZip) or even in audio players such as Winamp.
