Funcom, a developer focused on delivering MMO experiences, and EA Partners, a publishing division of Electronic Arts, have announced that they are working together to publish The Secret World, the upcoming massively multiplayer online game that is built around secret societies and how they influence aspects of the modern world.

The Secret World will arrive exclusively on the PC and will not have a class structure, relying on the development of skills as the primary way of advancing the power of characters.

Gamers will be able to choose every aspect of their character and will be able to pledge  allegiance to one of three secret societies, The Templar, the Dragon and the Illuminati, each of them with a very different vision over the future of humanity.

Players will be able to create their own cabals in the MMO and will visit real world locations like New York, Seoul, London and Paris, which will blend in with elements of a fantasy world.

Funcom has previously worked on Age of Anarchy and on Age of Conan.

David DeMartini, the senior vice president and the general manager of EA Partners, stated, “We are thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Funcom, one of the world-leaders in the development of massively multiplayer online games. We are very excited to be able to take part in the growing online gaming category with such a highly anticipated title as ‘The Secret World’.”

Trond Arne Aas, who is the Chief Executive Officer of Funcom, has also said, “We are tremendously excited to be working with what is undoubtedly the world-leading games publisher for the past decade, and it is also a great testament to the fantastic work of our development team. The experience and the knowledge that Electronic Arts brings to the table will be instrumental in allowing us to realize the full potential of ‘The Secret World’.”
