The Secret World might be a MMO built around secret factions and undercover actions but the developers have revealed that the shotgun wielding kid that has long served as the promotional image for the game is named Rose and is part of the Templar faction.

Ragnar Tørnquist, who is the director leading development on The Secret World, has talked to IGN about the MMO and said, “Large areas of the hub are communal for all factions. There’s a bar to hang out, dance and have drinks, there are stores and other useful amenities and there’s a theater hall where players can put on plays and shows. Additionally, if you venture into the underbelly of Darkside, there’s a free-for-all PvP fightclub down there.”

The philosophy of the Templar faction in The Secret World is built around power and its projection, without too much regard to what the general public knows about them and whether it is true or not.

The Templars are also in a fierce rivalry with the Illuminati, who they see as upstart and reckless in their action.

The developer added, “There is no love lost between the two factions, although Templars and Illuminati members do team up to fight the greater darkness. The Templars trust no one but their own, but consider anyone who takes up arms against evil to be allies of sorts… unless they’re wearing the Illuminati blue, of course.”

The forces of the Templars are being led in combat by a Force Marshall, with a council of Masters advising but the ultimate say on how operations are conducted likes with the mysterious Grand Master.

The faction appears monolithic to outsiders but Tørnquist says that there's a new group of mostly young operatives, the New Templars, who are trying to promote more freedom for agents in how they handle their missions.

The Secret World MMO does not yet have a launch date and will be playable on the PC.
