Pop culture icons will never be the same again

There are many things that could be said about how DC Comics and Marvel depict their fictional comic book characters. But if there is one positive in the quagmire of dodged Karma, it is that some of the characters have really amusing home lives.

Catwoman's rubber ducks, Superman eating hamburgers, Batman biting fudge, the Flash using eyedrops, all these are just a few examples.

A man by the name of Greg. ‘Léon’ Guillemin released a whole catalog / illustrated book depicting these factoids.

That is not quite what concerns us today, however. Instead, what drew our attention is the collection of 3D printed depictions of the characters.

The secret life of heroes 3D printed

Catwoman's rubber duck is actually one of the most benign examples. The “book” tends to go into less discrete territory quite often, showing that heroes have the same foibles as the rest of us.

You'll see them picking their nose and ears, suffering through armpit stains and the drama thereof, and generally being put through situations that one may or may not find amusing depending on how much current-generation twisted humor resonates with them.

If nothing else, the 3D printed sculptures look a lot more flattering than the drawings, since they are all gleaming smooth.

In a twisted way, we suppose that taking a look at the secret life of heroes art and book would make me qualify as a voyeur. But at least the characters are purely fictional.

The Kickstarter campaign

For Your Eyes Only: the book from the Secret Life Of Heroes will be open for pledges until March 5. The first funds will be used for the book itself, which will be a big, lush art book the size of an LP cover and filled with paintings.

However, Greg. ‘Léon’ Guillemin has collaborated with Nyce Gallery for the creation of the 3D printed sculptures and intends to eventually release them as well.

Unfortunately, you are only eligible for the sculptures if you pledge $2,500 / €2,180 or $9,900 / €8,630. Quite a bit of cash, but at least you can also look forward to some unrevealed works, and in the case of the latter options, an original canvas painted with the secrets, made for gallery exhibitions.
