Genius announced the first Opto Mouse in the world, the Traveler 355 Laser mouse, which features an impressive 1600 DPI (Dots Per Inch), laser motion sensor and the very first touch sensor to be implemented in a mouse.

The Genius Traveler 355 Laser mouse uses no traditional scroll wheel as it implements the OptoWheel technology in the form of an optical sensor that is designed to replace the wheel. The optical sensor allows users to scroll in several directions and according to the Genius Web page it is much easier to use than the traditional design. The OptoWheel can be used for scrolling Web pages and documents very smoothly and it supports a turbo scrolling feature that is able to scroll quickly through all kinds of documents and reach speeds of 100 pages per second. Touching again the OptoWheel sensor will immediately stop the turbo scrolling function.

Among the most important features of the new Genius Traveler 355 Laser mouse there are a laser motion sensor that can track user's movements against any flat surface without the need of a mouse pad, a touch optical sensor replacing the traditional scrolling wheel that can scroll in four directions and a sensitivity switch. Depending on the underlying surface and the current application, users can switch between two sensitivity modes: a high 1600 DPI mode that is best suited for games, and a lower 800 DPI setting that is usually used for office and multimedia applications.

The mouse connects to the host computer system via a high speed USB port and it supports all operating systems like Microsoft's Windows Vista, XP, 2000 and 2003 as well as all Linux distributions and Mac computers with OS X 10.2.8+. The Genius Traveler 355 Laser mouse features three buttons, left, right and middle that doubles as the OptoWheel touch scroll sensor. The manufacturing company included in the package along side the mouse a CD containing the necessary drivers and applications as well as a startup guide.
