More freedom for the player

Neocore Games has announced that it is working on an expansion pack for King Arthur: The Role Playing Wargame, their breakout game from last year. The new content will be called The Saxons and will introduce a more sandbox-oriented experience, which initially pushed the player along a scripted narrative path. Neocore is now saying exactly when it plans to launch the King Arthur expansion, but it's not clear whether it will be delivered only via digital distribution or whether a boxed version will also be offered.

The Saxons will be built around a new campaign set to take more than 30 hours to complete and will see the player as a Christian Saxon king who needs to stand against the darkness in the semi-fantastical lands of Britannia. The time frame is the same as in the main campaign of the original King Arthur but there's more freedom for the player.

There will still be objectives but they will not serve as gates to new sections, rather being strategic goals that orient the player while allowing them to craft their own experience. Moreover, they can set their own victory conditions.

Neocore is also promising more diplomatic options, the player being able to talk to the other kings but also to the mysterious Sidhe, the Church, potential brides and the thieves’ guild of the land. The Saxons will also introduce 5 new heroes, 3 unique unit types, 5 normal units, more skills for the heroes and more than 30 artifacts, some of them bringing fresh effects after they are collected in sets.

The Saxons will allow players to customize certain characteristics of their game, from creating a universe where magic is less important to choosing how aggressive the Artificial Intelligence is. All the additions sound good at this stage and we'll test out The Saxons when it’s out.
