Back in August 2007, Warner Bros. was saying that a feature film to bring back to life one of the most endearing cartoon characters ever, Jonny Quest, was a certain thing. Since then, nothing much was heard of the project – until now, when Dwayne Johnson, also known as The Rock, is telling the media that the project is definitely going in the right direction, with him cast as one of the main characters.

Johnson spoke to MovieHole and confirmed that not only was he attached to “Jonny Quest,” but “High School Musical” sweetheart Zac Efron would also star in it as the fair-haired, smart Jonny. Clearly, the project has left the planning stages and is now rolling towards turning into a real film, from what the actor is telling the aforementioned e-zine.

“I love the script, I love working with Andy [Fickman]... I don’t know if you’ve read the latest [draft], but it’s awesome and I haven’t read, this is what I told everyone over at Warner Bros., and I love the studio too by the way, you know, I had my experience with them with ‘Get Smart’ and they were great, I hadn’t read an action script like that in a LONG time. And that action was unbelievable. That will happen.” a very enthusiastic Johnson tells MovieHole.

So, if until now the fate of “Jonny Quest” was still undetermined, at least now fans have two actors and one director attached to it, which can only mean that it won’t be long until some sort of official announcement is made. Even if Johnson is to take on Race Bannon, Jonny’s bodyguard, the full details of Efron’s participation are still not completely settled, and signing a contract is pending. Of course, if fans are to believe what The Rock is saying, the deal is just as good as done.

“Jonny Quest,” the animated series that was such a huge hit with kids, focused on the story of a 12-year-old boy who accompanied his scientist father in adventures throughout the world. Clearly, if Efron accepts the part, some changes to the original story are to be expected.
