Hopefully no spammers received the message sent this morning

A few thousand of The Register's readers received an email that contained the names and email addresses of more than 45,000 of their readers.

”Between 8:58 and 10:20 this morning we sent an email to 3,521 of you that contained the names and email addresses of 46,524 of our readers,” revealed their statement.

It looks as the unfortunate event occurred because of an operating error.

As policies demand, they are in the process of informing the ICO over the matter but fortunately, since they're not a financial institution no one will probably get hurt, except for the situation in which a professional spammer received one of the messages.

Hopefully that's not the case and the incident will only remain a simple error from which we all learn. Privacy is the key word.
