iRiver waited and pondered on iPod nano's success and the way in which Apple launched the video iPod. As a consequence, the company launches a counteroffer: a player which measures only 2 inches in height and 3 inches in width.

iRiver U10 has a 2.22 inch QVGA display and is capable of playing AVI, MPEG4 and other types of files. Among the supported formats, aside from MP3, the users can count on WMA, ASF and OGG. The display can also be used to view images.

The player, which is fitted with a FM tuner, has a recording function and a tool for displaying text.

Along with multimedia enthusiasts, the iRiver U10 also wants to appeal gamers, and for that purpose the device is offering all sorts of mini-games made by FlashLite, a simpler version of the Flash 8 technology.

The navigation is done with the buttons placed on the sides of the device. The player will come in more colors and two storage versions: 512MB for $199, and 1GB for $249.
