After learning of the iPad’s existence from Princes Wills and Harry, 85-year-old Queen Elizabeth II has purchased her own to browse the internet, watch music, play games and download apps, according to a report.

Reached by The Sun, a royal insider reportedly said "The Queen hadn't seen anything like the iPad before,” and that she was “very impressed” when she got her hands on one.

"She was particularly taken with how easy it was to use, the large screen and how light it was, " the source said. "For a woman of her age, she is very switched on. It was only a matter of time before she asked someone to go and get her one."

The Princes, for their part, “think it is hilarious,” the source went on to say. “They love the fact that their gran wants an iPad and think she's really cool."

The Queen is known to be a fan of Apple’s product and currently owns not one, but two iPods.

Whether or not she uses both, one of them is a present from US President Barack Obama who gave her the player when he visited London in 2009.

The actual model is unknown, but it was said to have arrived loaded with images of the Queen’s trip to Virginia as part of her official tour of the US two years earlier, therefore it was likely an iPod touch or a 4G nano at least. Obama has an iPad as well, according to recent reports.

The source also added that "The Queen has a mobile phone as well as the iPods, so an iPad is the logical progression. She thinks it will be great to keep her entertained on all the long trips she has to make."

With 10 hours of battery life, the iPad will undoubtedly allow the Queen to kill time on her trips.
