Last year’s “The Purge” was the very definition of a sleeper hit: starring Ethan Hawke but made on a small budget, it made a huge profit mostly thanks to good ol’ fashioned word of mouth online. A sequel is coming out this year: “The Purge: Anarchy.”

Above is the first official teaser trailer. The film is scheduled for release on June 20.

“Anarchy” moves the action outside of the confinement of a well-guarded house to put a young couple stranded in the city, after their car breaks down, on the most violent night of the year. The action is still set in a not-too-distant future when all crime in America has been eradicated thanks to the night when the Purge takes place.

In case you’re new to the franchise, the Purge is 12 hours of one night each year when all crime, including murder, is legal. Now you can see why being stranded on the side of the road with your spouse only and no weapon to defend yourself is the worst thing possible.

From the looks of the trailer, “Anarchy” will document this young couple’s attempts to survive the night. We’ll see if the sequel is on par with the original, or if it falls short, in June.
