Small fixes

Sony has announced that the PlayStation 3 has received another firmware update. This one is numbered 3.01 and the company only released a few words related to what it is supposed to fix or change in the complex software architecture of the PS3. It's not clear at the moment whether the new firmware will fix all the issues that users have been dealing with after applying the 3.00 firmware version, which came out at the same time as the PlayStation 3 Slim was announced.

The Sony official statement reads “Hi everyone, PS3 system software update 3.01 is now available for download. This is an optional update that improves system stability during use of some PlayStation 3 format software,” which basically doesn't tell those applying the patch anything about its effects. This lack of information is a bad habit that Sony does not seem to be interested in correcting.

Eric Lempel then posted in the comments section on the PlayStation official blog, saying that “Yes, this will fix the issues that some users have experienced with Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune.” Unfortunately, the comments are also pretty much filled with users that are experiencing new problems, some of them being traced to the new firmware.

The gaming community built around the PlayStation 3 has been pretty upset with Sony lately. The 3.00 version of the firmware for the device introduced some pretty big issues for some players, who are unable to load games, are being dropped from multiplayer matches and even experience shutdown periods.

Still, rather than releasing a new firmware to directly address these problems, Sony chose to upgrade the software of the PlayStation Portable and then issued this 3.01 version, which is only optional. Other complaints were linked to the new screens added to the XMB that appear to be implemented just so that Sony can direct advertise towards players.
