Convergence is a very important trend in technological design nowadays, as most users demand advanced products capable of carrying out several other tasks besides their basic ones. This concept applies in communications as well, and a very good example is the Calisto Pro, just announced by Plantronics, a home communication device that brings together three worlds: landline, mobile and VoIP.

The Plantronics Calisto Pro features a compact landline handset and multi-function Bluetooth headset housed in an elegant charging base. The headset enables users to switch between landline, mobile phone and VoIP calls at the touch of a button and it incorporates a noise-canceling microphone and an extended boom to reduce background noise. Moreover, the headset can be connected to both the handset and a mobile phone (via Bluetooth) to easily answer both landline and mobile calls.

The handset is built on digitally encrypted, voice-dedicated DECT 6.0 technology, which means that it can provide a high level of audio clarity and performance, free from interference with other home devices, such as WiFi and microwaves. Moreover, it provides a wireless range of around 90 meters, includes a built-in speakerphone and flip-up waist clip for on-the-go dialing and Caller ID viewing, as well as an USB port for connecting to a PC in order to make VoIP calls.

"Home professionals are trying to gain control of the constant juggling of telephony devices and of business and personal responsibilities at home," said Joyce Shimizu, vice president and general manager, Home and Home Office at Plantronics. "With Calisto Pro, users are better able to simplify their lives through intuitive, natural communications and hands-free mobility".

The Calisto Pro will hit the shelves (both online and at several major retailers) in September at an estimated retail price of around $279.95, which is quite an OK price to pay for such a versatile and advanced communication device.
