Ready at Dawn, the developer of the upcoming The Order: 1886, has talked a bit about the various visual technologies it uses for the new PS4 exclusive title, and how they all combine to create an oil painting-like aesthetic.

The Order: 1886 launches later this year for the PlayStation 4, and Sony has finally showcased more footage with the new third-person shooter from developer Ready at Dawn.

Now, the studio's creative director, Ru Weerasuriya, has talked with Rev3Games, via DualShockers, about the many different visual technologies from the upcoming PS4 title.

According to him, Ready at Dawn tried to replicate all sorts of elements from that era, not to mention technologies used in movies, such as lighting.

"The world is the same, the thickness of the air, that feels like there’s depth, and the fact that we use camera lenses like the way you’d expect out of movies. The fact that lighting is done in such a way that we try to replicate not only lighting that would be reminiscent of the time, but also some times what would equate to stage lighting, where we can actually make lights feel a little bit surreal, but comfortable to your eye, since you’ve already seen them."

Putting all these things together results in a visual experience that definitely looks like an oil painting and something that players can easily believe.

"It’s all of these things that basically create that sense of visuals that – like you said – feel like an oil painting. You feel like you could take a screenshot and that would be like a painting that someone would do."

You can expect to hear much more on The Order: 1886 as Ready at Dawn enters the final stages of development and Sony begins its proper marketing campaign. As of yet, it doesn't have a concrete release date, but previous rumors pointed to a fall launch.
