With the E3 media summit being criticized for its lack of greatness, Penny Arcade's PAX 10 promises to bring the good old fun back to life at the world famous Penny Arcade Expo. But that's not our news today, since UK-based company Games Faction is the only developer located outside North America that won a place in the finals with its Project Aftermath game.

The winning European game is a tactical action title which allows you to control up to four squads of soldiers and battle in a retro-futuristic world. A bit of strategy seems to be involved, too, since you will have to spend some time searching for new items, weapons, armor and special attacks similar to spell casting. There are 12 missions available, 50 different types of enemies and, according to the developers, a huge replayability level.

Although we don't know too much about the game for the moment, it's clear that Project Aftermath is a great start for Games Faction, a young indie company founded in February 2006 - some developers spend lots of years working on a title and never get the chance to win any prize.

Lee Hickey, co-founder of Games Faction, said, "Project Aftermath has been a risky undertaking as a first title for an Independent developer, and we don't think it is obviously 'Indie'. Our hope is that people will be very excited and perhaps surprised at what a small team can achieve".

Also, everybody who will be present in Seattle for the Penny Arcade Expo will be able to purchase the game from the company's booth and play it for the first time. However, if you don't get the chance to take part in the fun-fair, you shouldn't worry: by the end of the year, Project Aftermath will be released worldwide, probably with a prize under its belt, from the PAX 10.
