A very innovative concept, for now just on the Japanese market

Convergence is one of the most important trends in technology design nowadays, but from time to time we come across some devices that really take this concept to the extreme. And that's exactly the case with the latest DLP projector launched by the Japanese company OS Group, namely the DV11, as this thing incorporates just about all the components common to any home theater system: a projector, a sound system and even a DVD player.

It's quite a mystery just how the manufacturers managed to cram up such a diverse array of devices into a relatively small form factor (37.8 x 13.87 x 27.78, at a weight of around 3.8 Kg), but, unfortunately, the result is not exactly high-end.

Thus, the DV11 has been fitted with a single-chip DLP projection system that provides an output resolution of just 800 x 600 (SVGA), which is quite low-range, at least according to today's standards. The other projection-related characteristics aren't exactly great, either, since the device can attain a maximum brightness level of 1500 ANSI lumen (provided by the 180 W lamp with an expected functioning life of around 2000 hours), while the contrast ratio is of around 2200:1.

As mentioned earlier, this thing sports a back-loading DVD player, which, however, also works with audio CDs, which means that the device may also be used as a standalone CD player. Moreover, it comes packed with a wide assortment of inputs, including VGA (component, HDTV, PC analog, sRGB), Composite video, S-Video and Audio, as well as RCA and Audio outputs.

The DV11 supports HDTV (480i/P,576 i /P,720P,1080i), NTSC and NTSC4.43, PAL, PAL-M, PAL-N and SECAM video signals, and, oddly enough, the SXGA and XGA resolutions outputted especially by Mac systems (as well as PCs, but with some modifications).

The all-in-one home theater system from the OS Group will be available starting with August 1 solely in Japan, at a price tag of around 198,000 Yen (around $1622), which is not exactly cheap, although nobody really expected such a multi-functional device to have a very low price tag.

We are just a few, but there are many of you, Softpedia users, out there.
