Barracuda Labs has been monitoring security trends and threats on social media networks such as Facebook and Twitter. The company has published an infographic to highlight the latest trends on Twitter.

As far as fake Twitter followers are concerned, Barracuda reports that the number of sellers offering such services on eBay has increased from 20 (in June 2013) to 52. Currently, 1,000 fake followers can be purchased for $11 (€8).

The study shows that, on average, people are buying 48,885 followers. The number has dropped from 52,432 (in June).

When it comes to abuse, experts say most fake accounts are designed to automatically tweet through Twitter.com, instead of a mobile or third-party app. Interestingly, 63% of fake accounts are actually clones of real accounts.
