Opera is announcing that just as the Nintendo DSi is being launched in North America, on April 5, and in Europe, on April 3, the well-known browser will be offered for all those interested in accessing the Internet from their new handheld.

The developer is saying that it has built the application from the ground up, making sure that all the websites are clearly displayed on the screens of the Nintendo DSi and that touch screen browsing is both quick and intuitive for the user. All those interested in using Opera to surf the Internet from their handheld can go to the DSi Shop once they get it and download it for free from there.

Jon von Tetzchner, who is the Chief Executive Officer at Opera Software, declared that “Opera is excited to work with Nintendo to bring the easy and accessible way to browse the Internet to Nintendo DSi lovers across the globe. Nintendo will not accept any less than the best when it comes to their products, and we believe that the Nintendo DSi Browser definitely lives up to the Nintendo standard of quality and innovation.”

At the moment, Opera is the third most popular browser for the PC, so it makes sense for the developer of the software to try and find new outlets for delivering the browser. The Nintendo DSi is going to be very popular in both North America and in Europe, if we take into account that it has sold no less than 2 million units in Japan in just a few months. And having an Opera browser on the Nintendo DSi all day while commuting and surfing the web will surely drive some people to install an Opera browser on the home system, if only to quickly and easily share elements like favorites and browsing preferences.
