The PC/OS team announced a couple of days ago  the final release of their Linux distro. Now available for download, PC/OS 2008v2 comes with various updated packages, as well as all of Ubuntu's (8.04.1) bug fixes and distribution updates. 

Two versions are provided, the client and the server release. Let's take a look at some of the leading features for each of these versions.

The client release:

· A new kernel - Linux kernel 2.6.24-19; · Firefox replaced with Flock Browser; · MPlayer and Gnome-Mplayer replaced with Movie Player; · Rhythmbox replaced with Audacious and GTKPod; · Screenlets 1.4 are now included - small applications designed to solve basic desktop-work-related needs and to improve the appearance of the Linux desktop; · Gnome PPP - a tool which helps dial-up users with the connection; · Picasa - an application useful in photo management tasks; · Google Gears - allowing offline access to Google Apps.

The OpenServer System:

· Kickstart configuration (a computer network installation tool set used to make network based OS installs and configuration); · Certificate manager; · Common Unix shells, KSH, TCSH and CSH are now included; · Also related to the server release, the addons package has been made availabe. Among the most important, there are:  Postfix E-mail server, Firebird SQL, PostgreSQL, MySQL, Sun Java JDK, and the SELinux packages.
