Well, the announcement from M-Audio should make some people happy as the new headset, codenamed Studiophile Q40, is ready and shipping. The Q40 is one professional-grade entry on the headphone market that aims for both very serious studio as well as home studio use, even though the $180 price would rather recommend them for the latter.

The M-Audio Studiophile Q40 headphones are closed-back dynamic ones, running on 40mm drivers operating in a full-range manner and being constructed after pro-grade specs. The vented diaphragms are made from treated mylar, sporting a very low mass and increased rigidity for excellent dynamics and ultimately, a better performance. The magnet motors used in Studiophile Q40 are oversized neodymium units, ensuring a strong field and providing a fast response, suitable for both monitoring and other professional operations. The voice coils are also lightweight, made from aluminium but covered with copper for better conductivity.

The closed-back circumaural architecture of the M-Audio Studiophile Q40 helps reducing the outside noise and allows for more detail to be heard at lower volumes, better mixing, tracking or monitoring, while still helping you preserve your hearing health better. Adam Castillo, M-Audio marketing director, said about the Q40: "With the Studiophile Q40, we've taken everything we've learned from building our popular reference monitors and created exactly what people expect from M-Audio-top quality and easy mobility".

The Studiophile Q40 headphones have been also engineered with mobility in mind: not only do they come with a carrying bag intended to protect them from dust and accidental scratches, but their very construction and design involve super-light and strong composite materials, for carrying them around more easily and making your job more pleasant. Even more, they have a collapsible construction allowing them to be easily stored and carried around, while at the same time taking up little space in your luggage, in case you're working on a mobile studio.

These headphones sport 10Hz-20kHz frequency range and run with an 116dB sensitivity, at an impedance of 64 Ohms. As specced before, they are selling for around $180, 3m detachable cable and gold plated jack included.
