Developer Platinum Games has announced that it's going to release the upcoming anime adaptation video game The Legend of Korra on October 21, for the PC, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4, and October 22 for the Xbox One and Xbox 360 consoles.

The news comes from Game Producer Robert Conkey, who has also made some interesting reveals regarding the Pro-Bending game mode featured in the upcoming action adventure title, which gamers will be able to access after completing the main campaign.

The Legend of Korra is a spin-off of Avatar: The Last Airbender anime series, in which some humans have the power to interact with the primary elements of air, water, earth and fire, and submit them to their will through a process called bending.

Pro-Bending is a sport originating from Republic City, in which teams of three people each compete against each other, with the goal being to dominate the space of a courtyard. The farther you are from opponents, the stronger your air-based attacks will be, and the greater their effect.

The goal is to push the enemy team back, and you can even counter enemy attacks and send the fireballs or water splashes hurtling back at their initiators, with even more force, in order to knock the casters out of the arena.

Evidently, the counter-attacks can also be countered and sent back, so players may end up playing ping pong with the abilities, increasing their power with each pass.

The victories in Pro-Bending matches are decided on a best out of three bouts system, but if you manage to knock the entire enemy team off the court, you will win the entire match by annihilation.

In case you're interested in finding more about the sport, you can take a look at the related Avatar wikia webpage, describing the whole thing in more detail.

The bad news is that, with The Legend of Korra game being a single-player only affair, the potential for team-based interaction and multiplayer with your friends is squandered.

In any case, the Pro-Bending gameplay seems to be a pretty fun bonus game mode, as evidenced by the gameplay video revealed by IGN, complete with commentary from Robert Conkey.

Developer Platinum Games has a lot of things on its plate right now, with the sequel to the hit action thriller Bayonetta coming out as a Nintendo Wii U exclusive in late October, and with the Xbox One exclusive monster hunting game Scalebound set for release at a later undisclosed date.
