iWatch is a peripheral device, not a primary one, no FDA regulations

New iWatch details are beginning to emerge, this time from sources who have “limited but direct knowledge of Apple’s plans for the iWatch and Healthbook,” the rumored fitness/health app that would come pre-installed with the device.

Brian Dolan of mobihealthnews.com has compiled quite a lengthy list of new details that these people have leaked to the publication, all of which are highlighted below, in case you want to skip the boring details.

• There are more than 200 people working on this project • iWatch is a peripheral device, not a primary one • Technological capabilities will be simpler than rumors have indicated • Meeting the FDA was about remaining unregulated • The Healthbook concept is right on but may not be the real name • Skeptical of claims about hydration tracking • Apple’s focus is not on the technology, but on the experience of it • Healthbook to focus on exercise, diet, sleep, stress, medication adherence — maybe women’s health

Apparently, the device is more important for Apple than some people think. The launch will be major, but the product itself may be simpler than the media pegs it to be.

As far as its wireless capabilities are concerned, it will not be a primary device, but a secondary one. People will need to supply it with Internet power from either their iPhone or their iPad, apparently.

Apple is not pursuing certification from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) because the iWatch will not be deemed all that scientific. As Dolan points out, “Apple’s focus is not on the technology, but on the experience of it.”

About the Healthbook app in particular, the site’s sources indicate that it may not be called that at all. 9to5mac’s sources likely got hold of a codename.

Using the same nomenclature for the sake of consistent reporting, Dolan reveals that “Healthbook will have a number of areas of focus, including exercise, diet, sleep, stress, and medication adherence.”

“It also seems like that the app will include tracking for women’s health and pregnancy tracking features, too,” he adds.
