Naughty Dog, the developer of massive franchises like Uncharted, has confirmed that its experience with the first PS4 project – The Last of Us Remastered – is going to help it achieve the 1080p and 60fps performance standard with Uncharted 4, the next major game coming from the Sony-owned team.

The Last of Us appeared last summer for the PS3 and delivered an intense experience that had great gameplay, an addictive story, and a pretty impressive multiplayer. However, its visuals were weighed down by the old PS3, which meant that the game couldn't have a high resolution or a fast framerate.

However, the studio is currently working on The Last of Us Remastered for the PS4, with which it's aiming for a full HD native resolution of 1080p and a framerate of 60fps, to ensure great performance.

While talking with Eurogamer, Naughty Dog's Arne Meyer has emphasized that the overhauled game is practically a test run for the studio to ensure that it can deliver a 1080p and 60fps title before its major Uncharted 4 project.

"A lot of it was because we could try something out on our PS4 engine," Meyer mentions about the reasoning behind The Last of us Remastered. "How far can we do it? Can we do a 1080p, 60fps game?"

"We always wanted to do that, but for the types of effects we wanted to put on screen 720p30 was just fine. Now with the push to go even further that's not fine enough. So we're trying to rise to meet that kind of challenge too."

Meyer once again emphasizes that Uncharted 4: A Thief's End is set to meet the 1080p and 60fps standards when it eventually comes out for the PS4, as it wants to ensure that level of quality on the powerful console.

"I think that's what we want to push for with anything we're doing on this generation," Meyer says about 1080p and 60fps. "That's sort of the mandate from when we were building the PS4 engine. Let's see if we can do this and hit it. We hit it with The Last of Us Remastered, so why not stick with this?"

Uncharted 4 already received a stunning video at E3 2014 last month that ran at a 60fps framerate and demonstrated some really impressive visual effects. However, the game is still in the development process and it's unclear how it's going to perform when it eventually launches for the PS4 in the following years.
