14 DAY TRIAL // The development team at Naughty Dog and publisher Sony are confirming the existence of the new Remastered edition of The Last of Us, which is set to be launched on the PlayStation 4 home console at some point during the summer of this year.
On the official PlayStation Blog the two teams are saying that, "Moving our efforts to the PS4 has allowed us to remaster an already phenomenal looking The Last of Us in 1080p with a list of upgrades including higher resolution character models, improved shadows and lighting, upgraded textures, along with even more improvements."
Naughty Dog explains that the new hardware has presented the team with some challenges but it was worth working through them because it makes the entire game experience better via a number of upgrades that will be detailed in the coming weeks.
The Remastered version of The Last of Us is also set to include a new and exclusive director's commentary for all the in-game cinematics that feature Neil Druckmann, the creative director and writer of the title, Troy Baker, who plays Joel, and Ashley Johnson, who plays Ellie.
The company adds, "We’ve released a ton of additional content since The Last of Us launched in June 2013, including our first ever single player expansion, Left Behind. We’re happy to say that the major content releases will be included with The Last of Us Remastered: Left Behind single player expansion, Abandoned Territories multiplayer map pack and Reclaimed Territories pack – details will be coming soon on exactly what is included."
The PlayStation 4 version of The Last of Us can be pre-ordered right now from a range of retailers and those who are willing to get the game early will be able to enjoy:
- 100 extra Supply Points to use in the Factions mode; - two special bonus skins for the two main characters that can be unlocked by completing the single player mode; - an increase for crafting speed and healing speed in the single player campaign.
- 9mm reload speed increase and rifle clip capacity increase upgrades for the game.
Gamers who pre-order using the PlayStation Store will also receive: early access to the Brawler Survival Skill, additional Loadout Points and Jeep Cap and Surgical Mask for the multiplayer Factions mode.
Rumors of the existence of the Remastered version of The Last of Us have appeared at the start of the week and the PlayStation 4 will probably get a big boost in sales when the game is finally launched.
