The Left Behind DLC for The Last of Us, the popular PS3 game that appeared last summer, will show a new side of Ellie and the whole tone of the experience will impress fans, according to Ashley Johnson, the voice actress behind the virtual character.

The Last of Us won over millions of PS3 owners worldwide by delivering a great survival experience that focused on the adventures of Joel and Ellie, two survivors of a pandemic that swept across the U.S.

For the game's first story-based add-on, Left Behind, developer Naughty Dog wants to bring forth a prequel story that focuses just on Ellie and one of her friends, Riley.

According to voice actress Ashley Johnson, who plays Ellie in the game and the new DLC, the story will show a different side to the young girl.

"You kind of get to meet the real her," she told PS blog. "She’s in the quarantine zone prior to the events of The Last of Us – it’s her and her best friend Riley – what they do and how they live their lives in this world. You’ll definitely see a more playful side to Ellie and get to know her a bit better. You’re going to see a lot of different sides to the character that you definitely didn’t see in The Last of Us."

The whole tone of the experience is quite different than the one of the actual game, especially due to the two main characters, Ellie and Riley.

"It’s a little bit more 'fun,' because you have two teenage girls going through a mall. It’s kind of like a post-pandemic version of two teenage girls hanging out. Definitely not a normal hangout! It’s very different – a little more playful."

"There’s a bit of everything in there. You’re really getting a new sense of the environment. You’ll engage in combat that seems familiar from the original campaign, but there are some new touches and nuances too."

The Last of Us: Left Behind will be released in early 2014, so expect to hear more about it soon.
