Naughty Dog wants to make it up to PS4 owners who have to endure lenghty waits

Naughty Dog has confirmed that it's going to release two free maps for The Last of Us on PS3 and The Last of Us Remastered for the PS4, in order to make it up to PS4 users who are forced to endure longer than usual matchmaking times due to different issues.

The Last of Us Remastered for the PS4 delivered an overhauled experience based on the original PS3 version, with better visuals, improved gameplay, and all the DLC that came out for the game since its debut last summer.

Unfortunately, it also had some fresh problems, as the matchmaking times for the multiplayer Factions mode was quite long, leading to frustration and anger. Developer Naughty Dog tried to fix these issues with various updates and smaller server patches, but the wait is still quite big.

While speaking with fans on the official blog, Naughty Dog's Arne Meyer has revealed that solving the problems is easier said than done.

"We know this can be frustrating and the team here at Naughty Dog wants everyone in our community to know that working on this issue continues to be our number one priority," he emphasizes.

"Over the last couple of weeks, we have deployed LiveUpdates and Patch 1.02, which have resulted in some significant improvements, but there is still more to be done to reduce the matchmaking wait times."

Right now, Naughty Dog is working with colleagues from across the Sony Worldwide Studios team, in order to take advantage of their know-how and get solutions faster than if it was working alone.

"Over the last two weeks, we've discovered that the most significant improvements may come from working with other teams at PlayStation to make updates to some of the existing matchmaking libraries. Since we are working with multiple groups inside and outside of the studio, we don’t yet have an exact date on when these updates will roll out."

Meyer believes that new solutions could appear in a few weeks, but right now it's still too early to tell.

However, in order to make it up to fans, the studio will release two new maps for free for the multiplayer Factions mode. The levels were teased last month, and after the solutions appear, they'll be launched as part of a free update via the PlayStation Network for both The Last of Us Remastered on PS4 and for the regular game on the PS3.
