Sony has once again confirmed that The Last Guardian, the mysterious game presented by the company back in 2010, is still in development but it can't say when it will launch, for what platforms, or from which actual developer.

The Last Guardian saw the light of day back at E3 2010, as it was presented by Sony as the next big project from its internal Team Ico group, the developer of cult classics like Shadow of the Colossus or Ico.

Unfortunately, it soon dropped off the radar, with the company declining to comment on the game while reports of issues broke online.

Now, after a series of statements saying that The Last Guardian is still being worked on, Sony's Scott Rohde, the head of PlayStation Software Product Development, told IGN that the game "is still in the mix."

Rohde emphasized that Sony was aware of the interest in the title and that's what motivates it to make sure that it will live up to the expectations of fans from around the world.

"You’re going to be very frustrated by this answer," Rohde said, "but it is 100 percent the God’s honest truth, and that is that we want to make great games. And when we see that the public is so interested in a specific game, of course that drives us to want to complete that game. But it also drives us to want to make it great. We would not want to ship that game if we don’t think it’s great."

He also declined to say what studio was working on the game or on what platforms it would debut, as Sony will reveal these details when the time is right.

"[I'm] not going to announce what platform it’s coming on, who’s working on it, who’s involved. But that is still a title that’s absolutely in the mix at Worldwide Studios. That’s the most you’re going to get."

Last but not least, Rohde once again highlighted just how much Sony appreciates the interest from fans in The Last Guardian, saying that "I love that people are still interested in it. That’s an honor to us. That’s not just me spinning… It’s really cool that people are still interested in it, and we’re trying to make the best thing we can out of The Last Guardian."

As such, you can expect a new reveal of The Last Guardian at some point in time but, until then, Sony is keeping the project under a shroud of secrecy.
