Buzz of a follow-up is taking over

With Health Ledger’s win at the 2009 Golden Globes for Best Supporting Actor just announced a few hours ago, it seems that the blogosphere is again being gradually taken over by talk of a suitable replacement for the late Aussie in a sequel to the second new Batman movie. Moreover, Two-Face could also make a surprise return, despite leaving fans with the impression that he was as dead as could be at the end of “The Dark Knight.”

First things first, since The Joker made for such a powerful crowd magnet – and, by all accounts, it was not only because of Heath’s death shortly before the movie was released – talk of bringing the character back is already taking place with the producers. Yet, in all fairness, finding someone to fill Heath’s (rather large) shoes would be quite a challenge for any actor.

“We have to separate the actors from the role,” producer Chuck Roven said when asked about whether they would have changed anything with Heath Ledger’s wicked The Joker, had they known he would not be reprising the part. “On a personal level, Heath was a friend of mine. We had worked together before ‘The Dark Knight,’ but I still think that ‘The Dark Knight’ is its own thing, and we have to separate them,” Roven added, which immediately got fans thinking that he might be considering a re-cast for the part of the deadly Joker.

As for Two-Face, the half-burned former politician dreaming of a better world, it’s the very actor who portrayed him that is now giving fans hopes of seeing him again in a possible sequel. “I think Harvey - if he’s not dead - is in a serious coma, and I’m not sure he’s coming out. They might pull the plug on him.” Aaron Eckhart told MTV News at the 2009 Golden Globes, which, although hinting only vaguely at a comeback, is clearly better than what he was saying a while back. “[Two-Face]’s dead. I asked Chris if there was a chance of coming back. ‘No way,’ he said. ‘He’s toast.’” Eckhart once stated.

While all of the above could be great news for fans of the caped crusader and/or the villains he faces, we must bear in mind, as MTV points out, that neither director Christopher Nolan nor producer Roven has confirmed any sequel so far. Furthermore, not long ago, writer David Goyer called all rumors of a sequel lies and fabrications.
