A mid-range device bridging the gap between meeting room and classroom projectors

The people over at InFocus have been pretty busy this year, launching a wide variety of new models, each of them aimed at a specific target segment. However, the company's product line-up was missing a little something and that's the reason why InFocus released the Work Big IN38 multipurpose digital projector, a device that incorporates a filter-free design and the latest DLP technology from Texas Instruments and is meant to bridge the gap between the company's room and classroom-oriented models.

The Work Big IN38 DLP projector features quite a high level of brightness (3500 lumens) and a 2000:1 contrast ratio, but weighs only seven pounds (around 3.18 kilos), which makes the IN38 a good solution for those users that are looking for a relatively high-performance digital projection system in a portable form factor. And since we're talking about performance, it's very important to mention the fact that the device features a native XGA (1024x768) resolution, with support for SXGA (1280x1024) and provides quite a wide array of connectivity options, including here M1-DA, Dedicated Component, Composite, VGA, S-Video, Monitor Out, Audio In and Audio Out, combined with an RS232 serial interface.

The device also offers several other important features, as for example the 1.2x manual zoom, digital keystone correction and a ProjectAbility keypad that gives users access to over 90% of onboard settings and diagnostic tools. The IN38 digital projector supports both front and rear projection and delivers rock-solid performance operating atop a meeting room table or installed in a board room. Moreover, the device provides automatic scaling for 16:9 video and true HD sources, and when used in concert with the InFocus LiteShow II wireless adapter, presenters can easily stream audio and high-resolution video content simultaneously from any notebook or desktop computer, enabling professionals to deliver high impact multimedia presentations and providing the ultimate in ease-of-use.

"We are excited to add the IN38 DLP Projector to our extensive, award-winning line of Work Big meeting room and notebook projectors", stated David Woolf, Senior Director of Product Management at InFocus. "The IN38 is a powerful workhorse projector that bridges the gap between the high-bright conference room and an entry-level systems integration projector, giving customers the unique versatility of either integrating it into their current infrastructure or transporting it from venue to venue", Woolf continued.

The IN38 will be available, for now just in North America, starting late September 2007 for around 2000 US dollars, an average price as far as projectors go. However, it's difficult to estimate this thing's chances of success, especially considering the fact that the lack of HD capabilities will probably "alienate" quite a substantial segment of the targeted class of consumers.
