A bare shoulder goes a long way

The asymmetrical look may be something we've been reluctant to try so far, but stylists say we should at least give it a shot. Off the shoulder or single strap gowns are quickly gaining in popularity and are one of the simplest way [admark=1]to experiment with this elegant and sophisticated trend, of which stylists say flatters all body types. Celebrities, of course, have been quick to pick up on this latest dress rage and are putting the bold off the shoulder gowns to the test, wearing them in bright colors and various cuts and styles.

Stylists say off the shoulder dresses are the perfect way to make a bold fashion statement without crossing the line and becoming tacky. "By baring a shoulder, you can be attractive without being tawdry or cheap," says stylist Philip Bloch. The key is to realize that many dress cuts are compatible with this trend - and to choose what is best for your own body shape and size. For example, you can wear a smock-style dress which bares one shoulder, or if you're rather skinny, put on a form-fitting elastic single strap dress. Wear it with a pair of stilettos and you will definitely be considered ultra-fashionable.

The essence is to choose the right type of dress for your own size and body shape, and to keep the accessories to a bare minimum. Go for a pair of large earrings that frame your face or a single chunky bracelet. "If the single strap is very thin, then you can go for a choker," the same stylist suggests, adding that even when the weather turns a bit chilly, we can profit from the edge given to us by asymmetrical dresses. "When you juxtapose a one-shoulder gown with a jacket or V-neck, you can play with weird angles for a cutting-edge look," he advises.
